Addressing the Liability Impact

of Automated Systems

3rd ALIAS Conference programme now available!

Dear all,

the provisional programme of the 3rd ALIAS Conference is now available online! Please find it here

This year the Conference entitles “Liabilities and Automation in Aviation: The case of RPAS and Collision Avoidance Systems”. The conference will address liability and automation in air traffic management, with reference to the innovation challenge faced by the SESAR Joint Undertaking. Particular focus will be given to two technologies of interest in the framework of the future paradigm shift: the new Airborne Collision Avoidance Systems (ACAS X) and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). ALIAS will present the results of the legal analysis conducted on these technologies by means of the Legal Case, the novel methodology developed by the project. The Legal Case intends to address the legal risk associated to the use of a certain technology for all the stakeholders involved in the design and implementation process.

Due to the multidisciplinarity of the topics, the Conference will bring together experts from different disciplines and domains of activity, to discuss  the many changes in  the allocation of liabilities resulting from the automation in such a complex socio-technical system. Judges from national courts of appeal are involved as panellists to stimulate interesting debates between legal and technical experts.

The ALIAS CONSORTIUM invites participants from academia, research centres, industry/SMEs etc. who are interested in the themes of liability and automation to participate in the ALIAS Conference!
