Addressing the Liability Impact

of Automated Systems

The ALIAS Consortium is happy to announce the second edition of the ALIAS Conference, entitled “Legal and Social Impact of Automated Systems in Aviation”, which will be hosted by the European University Institute (EUI) and take place on October 1-2, 2014, in Florence (Italy). The Conference will bring together experts from different disciplines and domains of activity to discuss the liability impact of automation in complex socio-technical systems, with a clear focus on aviation though not excluding relevant issues in other safety-critical domains to emerge.

The term “social” embedded in the title covers all the issues that go beyond the legal problems, such as economic, psychological, philosophical and ethical aspects. This is to highlight that the increase of automation in aviation is not only about the technological innovation as such, but also about the people who either directly or indirectly are affected by the changes that the automation brings about.

Participants from Academia, Research Centres, Industries, SMEs, and Aviation Agencies are welcome to attend. Detailed information, including the provisional programme of the Conference and the registration form, are available here
